AMANDA K. WALKER

Myths are central to Walker’s work - those that she creates to construct an understanding of her world in addition to existing mythologies from which she draws inspiration. Using paint and collage of various media she explore the mytholgies in the world around her. Combined with her love of history, medieval art and theatre, she creates surreal pieces that invites our minds to wander and wonder along with hers.

GORDON HOPKINS

Hopkins animates still life with colour and scale to create art that is instantly recognizable. He is unapologetic with his use of bold colours and the scale with which he represents ordinary, everyday objects. This accentuation or exaggeration of familiar objects transports us to an imaginary world where outlines, shape and colour combine to create depth and movement.

LAURIE SKANTZOS

Exploring the interplay of form, colour and reflection, Skantzos blurs the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Employing an experimental and rigorous practice, she works with oil paint, cold wax, acrylic, and shaped laminated forms. The result is wall sculptures innovatively sculpted with plywood that are shaped, molded, beveled, “back-lit” using fluorescent paint to create mesmerizing floating objects.

MABELIN CASTELLANOS

Castellanos' body of work can be interpreted as a series of textile snapshots, subverting the nature of textile work by treating her sewing machine as an instrument for photography and story-telling, while honoring the fleeting beauty in mundane moments. Her practice is marked by self-reflection, pleasant observations, and a tender reconstructing of identity and paths to personal development through moments of strife and rebirth.

MOLLY GAMBARDELLA

In the Lichen series, Gambardella continues her celebration of biological diversity in which she highlight the self organizing capacities of this specie. The Lichen series consists of hand-built sculptural forms assembled one silk petal at a time. Hundreds of individual components accumulate into dense surfaces that reference the colors, structures, and quiet complexity of lichens.

KATRINA MAJKUT

Majkut’s Fair Play series demonstrates art derived from a Feminist perspective.  Starting with baseball cards, a ubiquitous symbol of Americana embraced during childhood, Majkut invites us to question who these cards represent, celebrate and elevate. By concealing the original imagery on the cards with embroidery, glitter, sequins, beads she challenges the male-dominated space and opens a conversation to issues of equity, inclusivity and diversity.
